Shirly Montero
Forensics Researcher/Asst. Professor
Shirly Montero is an assistant professor in the School of Interdisciplinary Forensics at Arizona State University. She is also an expert glass analyst and a volunteer crime scene specialist for the Mesa Police Dept in Arizona. She is conducting a research study using microscopic pieces of glass embedded in bullets, analyzing them with some cutting-edge equipment in a lab and she's hoping this research will develop a better way to determine the trajectory of those bullets. Montero's research draws from the fields of forensic chemistry, machine learning, data visualization, and cognitive science, providing an enriched interdisciplinary approach for finding sustainable solutions to strengthen the criminal justice system.
