Kyla Wahlstrom
Researcher/Professor, Advocate for Later School Start Times
Dr. Wahlstrom has led research on school start times for 20+ years, sparking a movement to provide adolescents with school schedules more aligned with their biological sleep rhythms. Her research has influenced school policies throughout the U.S.
Prior to joining the University of Minnesota, Dr. Wahlstrom spent two decades in K-12 education as an elementary school teacher, a school principal and in administration. In 2010 Dr. Wahlstrom was awarded a federal grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to conduct research.
Her work has been featured in media ranging from Congressional Quarterly, Rolling Stone Magazine, Scientific American, Newsweek, NPR's All Things Considered & PBS' Frontline. She has received numerous awards for her work.
